The special session has beginned with participation of Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akgül who rector of KMU university and his assistant Prof. Dr. Birol Üner, invited speakers, company representives, scientist. Firstly, Dr. Mehmet Koyuncu speeched at special session and mentioned about the central activities and his projects which aims to strengthen cooperation between the university and food and industry companies. Prof. Dr. Mehmet mentioned that Karaman industry stands out in many main production sectors such as biscuits, bulgur, cake, chocolate, crackers, wafers, dairy products. He continued “In addition to all these sectors, Karaman is a city that worthy of the title of “Food City” with its food industry based production branches such as food machinery production, storage and packaging. One third of the biscuits were produced in our country and one fifth of the bulgur is produced in Karaman and its are marketed to the whole world”. It’s come and it’s been even passing to enter into furthering the Karaman food industry all together. We shouldn’t forget that looking forward to the future hopefully will be proportional with the importance as long as we place on R&D and innovation. In this context as Karamanoglu Mehmetbey University, Food Development Application and Research Center which we have accomplished of its establishment are beginning to their activity with the aims of meeting the R&D needs of Karaman food industry, increasing the competitive power of Karaman as global, studying scientific research, increasing cooperation between university and industry. Here your requests and needs are very important for us. Our biggest vision is to provide the cooperation between university and industrial companies at the highest level with your contributions and to transform the Karaman city as a Food R&D center. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kemal Uslu who another invited speaker frrom Akdeniz University made a presentation with the subject of “The new approach on food packaging”. Dr. Uslu reminded that people need packaging to preserve food thoughout the history and kept going his words as “While, 80 percent of the plastics accumulated as waste on land, 20 percent reached to seas. Plastic wastes cause the death of thousans of animals and also it causes the enviromental impacts on land and sea.” Dr. Uslu also gave information on biodegradable plastics that do not harm the enviroment. He said the usage of this plastics were not spreaded yet. But it certainly will increase with the development of the product. After the invited spekers, the new panel has started with the moderation of Dr. Mehmet Koyuncu. In this panel which is helding within the frame of üniversity-industry cooperation title, and Esat Şen who the chairman of KARSIAD , Mustafa Kundakçı who CEO of Slava Süt, Ece Duru who member of the board of management the Duru Bulgur, Reşit Kızıldenizler who the member of the board of management and our CEO Hamza Toprakçı made presentations. After the panel, plaque of attendances were given to the invited speakers and participants. After the special session, the participants who came together after the dinner watched the folk dance shows with hosting of Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akgül. And then Rector Akgül firstly made evaluation about the congress and thanked the researches who partificated and the KMU personel who contributed to the organization of the congress. Further, Rector Akgül gave a plaque to Mustafa Akın who he is the general manager of the Akar Mühendislik company which were signed a protocol before. Within scope of the 1.
